Readings

First Reading: Wisdom 2:12-22Psalm 34Gospel: John 7:1-2,10,25-30

By this point in Johns Gospel Jesus has made his identity known to many of his followers and his disciples. Still the Scribes and Pharisees do not understand or want to accept his identity as the Son of God. It is not always easy living out our faith. We often risk being labeled as β€œthat person.” Do we let this define us? Our faith is something that we should be proud of and profess it and live it on a daily basis. What does it mean to live out our faith? are we able to follow the commandments on a daily basis? Do we stand up for the faith when it is being abused? Are we vocal about what we believe as Catholics? We are called to a larger family of believers which unite us as one family that does not discriminate against race, creed, or gender. How can you stand up and live out your faith to the best of your abilities?

The Main Points to Teach Your Child:

  1. Know the basic story of the Annunciation. -The Angel Gabriel appears to a young girl, Mary and tells her the Lord is with her and that she will have a baby boy and name Him Jesus. -Mary trusts in the Lord and say Yes to God.

  2. Understand the basic differences between the Old Testament and the New Testament. -Old Testament are stories about God's promises BEFORE Jesus is born. -New Testament are stories about Jesus' life and how he fulfills God's promises.

A Note from Julie:

Dear parents,

Today we enter into the New Testament and the Annunciation.

Mary, a young virgin, freely accepts God's will for her. "Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord; may it be done to me according to your word."

How freely do you accept God's will in your life. What may God be asking of you these days? How freely are you able to respond Yes to God's will.

Join us on Fridays during Lent to pray through the Stations of the Cross.

Stations of the Cross

The Stations of the Cross began as the practice of pious pilgrims to Jerusalem who would retrace the final journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary. Please join us every Friday during Lent (now online!) as we travel through the stations and identify with Jesus’ journey to Calvary. Fr. Kurgan and Fr. Rawson narrate the Way of the Cross with high resolution photos of the beautifully crafted stations at Holy Cross Church in DeWitt, NY.
