Today's lesson enters into the story of God's establishment of a Chosen People through the patriarch Moses. God, after giving his name to Moses, has Moses deliver this new nation from bondage and slavery. Jesus likewise becomes a New Moses bringing about a New Deliverance, giving a New Law, and creating a New Passover.
When we think of the word “renew” we often think of becoming invigorated or strengthened in a situation. Today in the Gospel, the man was healed not only physically, but also spiritually. When we look at our own lives, we often can find excuses for avoiding things that we know lead us into sin. How can we become “renewed” in the face of our own spiritual desolation? Take a moment to ask the Holy Spirit to enkindle the fire in your heart to become true disciples of Christ. When we find ourselves down and in need of healing, let us remember to take the time to be with God in the silence of our daily lives. Come Holy Spirit, enkindle in us the fire of your love.

The Main Points to Teach Your Child:
God speaks to Moses, He chooses Moses to deliver the Israelites from slavery
God makes a Covenant with Moses - The Ten Commandments
Jesus also ascends a mountain and gives a "law" - The sermon on the Mount (Matthew5:1-4, 43-48)
Below are some additional activities for your child to do at home after listening to the story of Moses. If you also have access to the movie "The Prince of Egypt" by DreamWorks, this is another great resource to reinforce the message of the Moses story. Maybe pop some popcorn and snuggle up for a movie tonight!
