DAY 52 - LECTIO DIVINA MINI LESSON

Today's mini lesson is a crash course in how to pray an ancient from of prayer with the Scriptures - Lectio Divina. In 2010, Pope Benedict wrote about the importance of this form of prayer for all the faithful. In his writing Verbum Domini he says, "The Synod frequently insisted on the need for a prayerful approach to the sacred text as a fundamental element in the spiritual life of every believer, in the various ministries and states in life, with particular reference to lectio divina." (#86). You can also see the basic steps of Lectio Divina written out in the Prayer section of the Crown Retreat.

"Prayer purifies us, reading instructs us. Both are good when both are possible. If we want to be always in God’s company, we must pray regularly and read regularly. When we pray, we talk to God; when we read, God talks to us. All spiritual growth comes from reading and reflection. "
