DAY 51 - THIRD PRECEPT OF THE CHURCH
Jesus gives us the Mass not only for communal prayers to be offered but because God desires to be close with each person individually. In the words of St. Therese of Lisieux, "Do you realize that Jesus is there in the tabernacle expressly for you - for you alone? He burns with the desire to come into your heart..." Therefore, to remain close to Jesus, we are given the Third Precept, to receive communion at least once a year during Easter.
The Crown Retreat Update
Next week is our final week of The Crown Retreat! We have enjoyed providing this opportunity for prayer and discovering the spiritual depths of our faith during this incredibly challenging time. As this is traditionally about the time our Faith Formation classes wrap up and with the change of the season, we thought it was an appropriate time to culminate our retreat. Thanks for joining us, and we hope you have found it encouraging and helpful. We'll have a FINAL TRIVIA QUIZ starting Monday that recaps all of our lessons. Lots of House Points will be awarded, so go back and catch up on any days you may have missed. We'll keep bringing you edifying content through next week, so stay tuned for more!

The Main Points to Teach Your Child: the Precept of the Church #3...
recall the 10 Commandments... The DON'Ts of a relationship with God.
5 Precepts are... "DOs" of a relationship with God.
Attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days
Go to Confession at least once a year
Receive Holy Eucharist once a year during Easter
Observe Fasting / Abstinence
Provide for the Needs of the Church
Precept #3: Receive Eucharist once a year during Easter (at least) - Jesus wants to be us always!
means...
Jesus gave us the Eucharist to have a profound intimacy, an intense closeness with Him
Jesus comes into your body
God desires you to choose Him of your own free will.
because...
Jesus commands us to "do this in remembrance of [him]"
to remain close to Him, you must constantly be nourished by His gift. The Church, through Jesus' command and desires, wants you to receive Eucharist as often as possible. There are times when you shouldn't receive communion; such as, when you're in a state of mortal sin, you are super late to Mass, you haven't kept our 1-hour fast before Mass. Other than that, you should receive Communion all the time! "Not going to Communion is like someone dying of thirst besides a spring." St. John Vianney
to have a healthy relationship with God, just like with your spouse and children, you must not only make quality time together, you must have intimate moments with the those you love; receiving Jesus in the Eucharist.
seems like a hard concept to grasp...
Jesus being PRESENT in the Body and Blood - the Eucharist. It is through "the action of the change of substance", of a "substance change". Aka...
Transubstantiation (it's a mouth full)...
"Trans" = change (such as transportation or transformation)
"Substantia" = substance, essence
"-ation" = meaning an act of Celebration - the action of Celebrating
the Mass is Heaven on Earth - mind blowing to think that every time we Celebration the Eucharist, all the Angels and Saints are gathered with us!
If you done't get anything out of Mass, it's because you don't bring the right expectations to it." -Fulton Sheen
come to Mass like all of Heaven is coming down around you, the Angels, Saints, Blessed Virgin Mary are there with you.
you have center stage to witness the change of bread into the Lamb of God Himself !
A Note from Julie:
Dear Parents,
You may recall, this past year we offered to each family copies of "The Lamb's Supper" by Dr. Scott Hahn and the year before that a copy of "The New Testament Basics for Catholics" by John Bergsma. This might be a perfect time to do some reading.
So, if you haven't had an opportunity yet to read them, I encourage to set some time aside to read. You'll be amazed by how your appreciation of the Mass will increase! If for some reason you did not receive either of these books, please let me know. We have limited supply left and I'd be happy to get a copy to you. We offer these resources to help you better grasp all that is happening in the Mass.
God bless,
-Julie Sheridan
