DAY 48 - MORTAL & VENIAL SIN
From the very beginning, the Church has taught that there are two types of sin: mortal & venial sin. Venial sin is the small offenses that hurt or damage our relationship with God. Mortal sin is a sin that is far more serious and "kills" or destroys our relationship with God. When mortal sin is committed, the grace from Baptism departs from us, and we are in jeopardy of losing salvation. It is important to understand these types of sin, so we can avoid them and protect our relationship with God and the salvation he offers.

The Main Points to Teach Your Child:
Sin is our rejection of the rules (10 Commandments) that protect our relationship with God.
There are two types of sin,
Venial - which is a minor offense against God but still hurts our relationship with Him.
Mortal - Must be:
Grave Matter (a serious sin)
Full Knowledge
Complete Consent
Mortal sin destroys your relationship with God, and the Holy Spirit leaves you. The ordinary way of getting the Holy Spirit back is to go to Confession.
A Note from Julie:
Dear Parents,
I pray the Holy Spirit, be with you. May you be filled with His righteousness in your heart and His words on your lips to share with your children daily. May your home be filled not only with God's love and mercy, but also knowledge, wisdom, discernment, and integrity. May you and your children walk daily in the ways of Honesty and Truth.
God bless,
-Julie Sheridan

" If any one sees his brother committing what is not a mortal sin, he will ask, and God will give him life for those whose sin is not mortal. There is sin which is mortal; I do not say that one is to pray for that. All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin which is not mortal.”
