Up until this point the Crown Retreat has been a discussion about who God is, as revealed to us in the story of the Bible, and how we enter into a relationship with him through the Sacramental Life. Now, we transition to a discussion of how we stay in a relationship. This is called the Moral Life.
We hear the words of Jesus telling the crowds today of the need to be reborn. This is prompted by one of the Pharisees who asks what it means to be born from above. Jesus responds that one be must be reborn through water and the Spirit. When we hear these words, we should be reminded of the baptismal promises we make each year at Easter and any time we attend a Baptism. We respond in affirmation to renouncing Satan, and all his empty promises. We affirm our belief in God the Father who sent His Son to be born of Mary to set all of us Free from sin. What do these baptismal promises mean to you? How can you live out your baptismal promises each day of your life? We are called to reject sin, affirm our faith, and bring the faith to those who are struggling. Take some time and reflect on these promises so that you can live them out every day of your life.

Explain the nature of rules. They are always established to protect something.
There are rules to help us live well with one another; and to have and stay in a relationship with Jesus. These are called living the moral life.
The most basic summary of these rules are the 10 Commandments:
I am the Lord your God: you shall not have strange gods before me.
You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
Keep holy the Sabbath.
Honor your father and your mother.
You shall not kill.
You shall not commit adultery.
You shall not steal.
You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife.
You shall not covet your neighbor’s goods.
If we love Jesus and freely choose to have Him at the center of our lives, to have a relationship with Him.
We must know, follow, and live by His rules. When we do, we live a moral life.
Living by God's rules, the Ten Commandments, is actually freeing because we will know exactily how to live and love, and how to keep the bond and friendship with someone so important to us. Helping us from making mistakes and hurting others.
Dear Parents,
As we visit the lessons of the Ten Commandments and Moral Life, my thoughts are of the important role we, as parents, have in building the foundation of faith in our children. Teaching and guiding them to live by God's rules.
I share with you a prayer I have used for years to bless my own children. I share this with you that you may also bless your child(ren) -- simple, beautiful, uncomplicated. Use this short ritual to bless your child(ren) during transitional times of the day (leaving or returning home, going to bed or waking, before a big event, etc.).
Make the Sign of the Cross on your child’s forehead while saying: “May God bless you and keep you, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”
Seal the blessing with a kiss on the forehead.
Use holy water if you have it available.
My children are older now, (30, 27, 25, 21, 19), I have blessed them each in this way for years. I continue to pray for them in my daily prayers. Parents, don't let a day pass without blessing your children
God bless,
-Julie Sheridan
